Street closures, parking restrictions in place Tuesday

Creighton University officials estimate more than 5,000 people will attend the visitation or funeral of an Omaha Police officer shot and killed last week.

 

Officer Kerrie Orozco's visitation is Monday at St. John's Church at Creighton University. It's open to the public from 4 to 6 p.m. A vigil follows at 7 p.m. Her funeral is Tuesday at 11 a.m. At the church.

 

Road closures and parking restrictions will be in place Tuesday starting at 7 a.m. 24th Street will be closed from Chicago to Cuming Streets. Burt Street will be closed from 23rd Street to 27th Street. Also, Cass Street will be closed from 20th to 24th Streets.

 

Also, access to the Criss complex surface parking lot will only be available off of Burt Street.

 

The top levels of the 20th and 24th Street parking garages, the McGloin surface lot, and the 24th and Cass Street visitors lot are reserved for the funeral.

 

Tuesday's procession route from St. John's Church to Saint Joseph's Cemetery in Council Bluffs will follow mostly Douglas Street and West Broadway/East Kanesville in Council Bluffs. The public is asked to alter their driving routes on Tuesday for the funeral.

 

Also, OPD encourages everyone to line the procession route and wear blue.

 

Officer Kerrie Orozco was 29 years old and a seven year veteran of OPD. She's survived by her husband, stepchildren, and newborn daughter.
