Tree of Lights Campaign behind with two weeks left

The Salvation Army’s Tree of Lights Campaign is at only about one-third of its goal with two weeks left.

As of Friday, the Tree of Lights Campaign has raised 38.6 percent of its $3 million goal. The campaign is more than $100,000 behind where it was at this time last year.

Salvation Army of Omaha spokeswoman Susan Eustice says the need for assistance continues to grow.

"Just at Christmas time, more than four thousand families signed up for assistance, and that totals out to 9,516 children within those four thousand families, who need our help this holiday season."

Eustice says donations to the Tree of Lights Campaign support 22 programs, including the Christmas assistance, Winter Night Watch, and programs for children and the homeless. She says part of the reason the campaign is behind is a shortage of bell-ringers.

More information on the Tree of Lights Campaign, and the programs, is available at www.salarmyomaha.org.
