Unicameral returns to session

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska lawmakers are preparing to commence the 2013 legislative session.

Lawmakers will begin the 90-day session Wednesday morning at 10 a.m.

Eleven new lawmakers will take the oath of office to replace members who either lost re-election or were forced out by term limits.

The first day will include the election of legislative committee heads and a new speaker to replace Norfolk Sen. Mike Flood, one of the lawmakers forced out by term limits. State Sen. Greg Adams of York is expected to be chosen as the new speaker.

Lawmakers are expected to focus on the state budget, tax cuts and a proposal to expand Medicaid during this year's session.
