UNMC, Nebraska Medical Center expanding two campuses

UNMC and the Nebraska Medical Center are expanding their midtown and Village Pointe campuses.

Construction began this week on the facility at 41st and Emile Streets in midtown. Dr. Harris Frankel, Chief Medical Officer of the Nebraska Medical Center, says the new building will primarily serve as an outpatient surgical center.

"This is about a 170,000 square foot facility that will house both operating rooms, so outpatient operating rooms, and also outpatient clinics, the lion’s share of which will be surgical specialties."

The midtown facility will be called the Lauritzen Outpatient Center. The Village Pointe expansion at 176th and Burke Streets includes an outpatient surgical center, more clinic space, and diagnostic radiology.

The Village Pointe center is scheduled to open next fall, with construction on the midtown facility scheduled to be complete in the fall of 2016.
