UNO named top military-friendly university

UNO has been named the top university in the U.S. for veterans.

The publication Military Times ranked the top four-year schools based on factors such as military friendliness, academic support, and extracurricular opportunities.

Mike Connolly, Director of UNO’s Office of Military and Veterans Services, says academic services have helped active duty service members and veterans succeed.

"We’ve pretty much accomplished everything that we can, as far as those procedural types of things and supports for veterans. So what changed for us is when we really began to focus all of our firepower, if you will, on academic intervention and pushing veterans through in their academic success and graduation whenever possible."

Connolly says UNO also has a flexible deployment policy to help active duty service members stay on track. 730 service members and veterans are enrolled at UNO this fall.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, an Army veteran, is a 1971 graduate of UNO.
