VNA Head to Toe Home Safety Event

One in three elderly people will experience a fall.  And most of these falls will take place in the home.

That’s why the Visiting Nurses Associationis hosting a Head to Toe Home Safety Event Wednesday (today) at the VNA Headquarters.

Melanie Clarke, Rehab Coordinator for the VNA, says factors that may contribute to falls at home include the amount of clutter on the floor, how a room is set up and whether or not the individual is getting enough exercise.

Clarke says there will be two speakers presenting information during the event.

"Alicia Birky, who is a physical therapist, is going to be talking about exercise to maintain your equilibrium.  And then, Dr. Laura Grothe is going to be doing medication management and its impact on balance.”

The VNA’s Head to Toe Home Safety Event takes place Wednesday (today) from 11:30 until 1:00 at the VNA Headquarters.  The event is complimentary and lunch will be provided.
