A 31-year-old southeast Nebraska man has been sentenced to 15 to 20 years in prison for letting more than 200 cattle die and for selling livestock he didn't own. Aaron Ogren, of Exeter, was sentenced Tuesday on seven charges. He initially faced 43 counts after being arrested last April when sheriff's deputies found more than 200 dead cattle on land near Exeter. Ogren was supposed to be caring for the cattle. Several other cattle later died because they were in such poor condition when they were found. Authorities said Ogren also sold livestock he didn't own.

Petting Zoo Prepares For Legal Fight With Humane Society

Sep 9, 2020

An Omaha petting zoo wants its animals back. Nine animals deemed wild by the Nebraska Humane Society were removed from Scatter Joy Acres through a city ordinance. The petting zoo says it has the proper permits and documentation for the animals. Scatter Joy Acres has filed a formal complaint with the City of Omaha and sent a letter to the Humane Society threatening legal action.

The calf was born April 16 to Dottie, a 19-year-old female giraffe, and Jawara, a 10-year-old male. The third calf born by Dottie, it weighed 152 pounds and measured around 6 feet tall a day after birth.

Dottie and the calf are on display to zoo guests in a separate area of the giraffe exhibit before they're introduced to the rest of the herd in the upcoming weeks. There are currently 11 giraffes at the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium — one male and 10 females, including the new calf.
