This special profiles people from different backgrounds who seek to get past the consumer frenzy of the December holidays, and to focus more on authentic family connection and giving charity in the spirit of the season. We hear from Annie Leonard, whose environmental film 'The Story of Stuff' attracted over 10 million online viewers, and examine the movement to carve out family downtime from our digital devices.

Wednesday, parents of students at Manchester Elementary School received an email from the principal apologizing for a memo sent to staff last week.

The memo stated Principal Jennifer Sinclair came from a place where Christmas was not allowed in schools, which is why she laid out what could and could not be allowed in classrooms. She stated she wanted to be inclusive and culturally sensitive to all students.

(Omaha, NE)  --  Omaha's official Christmas tree is ready to be decorated at the Durham Museum.  The Omaha World-Herald reports a 50-foot blue spruce was donated by a mother in memory of her two young daughters who died in a car accident in 2010.  The tree left from the 25-hundred block of South 46th Street around eight o'clock this morning.  The tree will be decorated before an official lighting ceremony on the day after Thanksgiving.
