Nebraska voters set a turnout record in the 2020 general election, with nearly 74% of eligible voters casting a ballot. Secretary of State Bob Evnen said Wednesday that voters beat the previous record from the 2016 general election by about 68,000 votes. Election officials statewide counted 936,106 votes cast. Evnen says 34 counties had a turnout of more than 80%, and four counties had a turnout of 88%. He says the record will likely increase once counties process an additional 20,000 to 25,000 ballots and provisional ballots that were submitted on Tuesday.

Republican U.S. Rep. Don Bacon has scored a big endorsement from a former political rival who lost to him in 2016. Former U.S. Rep. Brad Ashford, a Democrat, announced he will support Bacon in this year’s general election. Bacon is running against Democrat Kara Eastman in a competitive race for Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District, encompassing the Omaha area. Ashford lost his seat to Bacon in 2016 after serving one term in Congress. He released a statement announcing his endorsement minutes before a televised political debate between Bacon and Eastman.

Nebraska congressional candidate Kara Eastman is getting a key endorsement.  Former President Barack Obama has endorsed Eastman for the November general election.  The Democrat Eastman takes on Republican Incumbent Second District Congressman Don Bacon in a rematch from two years ago.

Republican U.S. Rep. Don Bacon has scored a surprise endorsement from former Nebraska state Sen. Bob Krist, the 2018 Democratic nominee for governor. Krist previously supported Omaha attorney Ann Ashford, who lost to Kara Eastman in Tuesday’s primary election. Krist was a Republican for most of his time in the nonpartisan Legislature, but left the GOP shortly before he announced his gubernatorial bid. He initially launched his campaign as an independent, but re-registered as a Democrat because of the difficulties nonpartisan candidates face in qualifying for the ballot.
