LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Gov. Pete Ricketts has kicked off a new trade mission to Vietnam and Japan to promote Nebraska's agricultural products and present the state as a top place for international investment.

The trade mission began Thursday in Hanoi, Vietnam, where the delegation was scheduled to meet with government officials and business leaders. Delegates on the mission include state agricultural and economic development officials, University of Nebraska leaders and business and trade groups.

The trip is Ricketts' fourth trade mission to Asia in the last five years.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts has signed a disaster declaration to help communities struck by flooding since July 15.

The declaration announced Wednesday frees up state resources to help local cities and counties with their recovery efforts.

Rickets signed the latest declaration last week to provide emergency assistance for all of the affected communities. He issued an earlier declaration in March.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts is defending the Republican Party from criticism by a state senator that the GOP is "enabling white supremacy" through its support of President Donald Trump.

Ricketts, a Republican Trump supporter, called the critique by state Sen. John McCollister "baseless" in a Twitter posting Monday afternoon.

Ricketts doesn't mention McCollister by name in his posting, but says the GOP doesn't tolerate hateful views. He says white supremacy and racism have no place in the country and must be driven out.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Gov. Pete Ricketts is planning to visit more than a dozen Nebraska businesses as part of a victory tour for the state's recent win of a national economic development award.

Ricketts will kick off the tour Tuesday with a visit to NelNet in Lincoln. He also is expected to visit Omaha, Columbus, Norfolk, Bloomfield, Minden and Sidney.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts has launched a new podcast that will feature conversations with lawmakers, sports coaches and other people of interest.

The first podcast released Wednesday is a conversation between Ricketts and U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer about current debates in Congress and her time in the Nebraska Legislature.

Ricketts says the podcast will give listeners the chance to hear from a variety of people who are involved with issues of great public interest. Listeners can subscribe online on SoundCloud, a website with free music and podcasts.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts isn't giving up his push to lower property taxes even though lawmakers rejected several proposals this year.

With the 2019 session now over, the Republican governor says he plans to meet with key lawmakers this summer in search of a new property tax compromise before the Legislature reconvenes in January.

But Ricketts is standing firm in his opposition to any proposal that lowers one tax by raising another.

(Lincoln, NE)  --  Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts is criticizing lawmakers for a plan to reduce property taxes.  The governor's comments came after the legislature's Appropriations Committee voted Tuesday to cut in half the 51-million-dollars Ricketts wanted to add to the state property tax credit program.  Ricketts says the latest legislative tax proposal could lead to lower property taxes in the short-term, but the state would end up with higher property and sales taxes long-term.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts has submitted an expedited request to the federal government for disaster assistance in the wake of historic flooding in the state.

Ricketts signed the request Tuesday during a meeting with Federal Emergency Management Agency Regional Director Paul Taylor. The request now goes to FEMA's regional office and headquarters for consideration.

Ricketts and members of Nebraska's congressional delegation met Tuesday with Vice President Mike Pence to show the extent of the flood damage along major waterways.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts is proposing a tax exemption on military retirement pay in an effort to keep retirees from leaving the state.  Ricketts announced Friday that he will propose a bill to exempt half of the benefits paid to all military retirees. The measure would apply to an estimated 14,000 retirees in Nebraska and cost the state an estimated $15 million in lost revenue.

Ricketts says the bill is intended to replace a "clunky" state law that only provides a tax benefit to a smaller subset of military retirees.

Ricketts is looking to replace state Sen. Joni Craighead of Omaha, who announced that she is resigning effective Friday. Craighead represents District 6, an area that includes parts of western and central Omaha.
