Omaha Virtual School

Omaha Virtual School (OVS) is a full-time, tuition-free public blended school within the Omaha Public School District.  OVS enables students to take ownership of their learning.  Students may work quickly through the areas they understand, take their time in areas where they need extra help, and put an emphasis on subjects that interest them most.

Dr. Wendy Loewenstein is the Director of Omaha Virtual School.  She stopped by the KIOS-FM studios to chat with Mike Hogan, "Live & Local" about the program, the benefits, the kindergarten roundup as well as the middle and high school open houses on the 30th of January.  These event kicks off the recruiting for the 2020-2021 school year.

Providing a unique learning opportunity for parents to be more involved in their student's education.  That's the goal of an Omaha Public Schools program that uses technology to promote what the district calls blended learning.  This is the program's fourth year.  There are currently more than 200 kindergarten through 11th grade students enrolled at Omaha Virtual School.

Director of the Omaha Virtual School, Dr. Wendy Loewenstein, stops by the KIOS-FM studios to chat with Mike Hogan about how this school is a combination of in-person and at-home learning.  For example, once a week, students go to a classroom setting at the TAC building.

There is still time to register students for this free program.  The last "Info-session" before the start of the school year is Tuesday, July 23rd at 9:30am at Abrahams Library.  It is free and open to the public.
