(London, England)  --  Kansas City's Jack Sock, a Lincoln, Nebraska native, is a two-time Wimbledon doubles champion, but he won't be playing this summer in London.  The Wimbledon Championships will not be played this year for the first time since 1945 because of the coronavirus pandemic.  The tennis tournament was to begin June 29th and run through July 12th.  "Devastated," eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer tweeted.  In addition, the ATP and WTA made a joint announcement all events of both pro tours have been canceled through July 13th, covering the entire grass-court season.

Omaha Pro Soccer Team To Announce Name

(Omaha, NE)  --  Omaha's new professional soccer team is about to announce its name.  United Soccer League officials will be on hand for a block party on October 3rd near 62nd and Maple streets.  The team's name, crest and colors will be unveiled during the event.  The Omaha USL League One team will start play next March at Werner Park.

Omaha Tennis Native Jack Sock Eliminated From U.S. Open

(Flushing Meadows, NY)  --  Nebraska natives Jack Sock and Jackson Withrow were ousted at the U.S. Open Tennis in the men's doubles quarterfinals.  They lost in three sets to the British duo of Neal Skupski and Jamie Murray.  Sock won the doubles championship last year when he teamed with Mike Bryan.

Nebraska native Jack Sock saw his tennis career peak in 2017 with a world top-10 ranking in singles.  Last year, Sock's success was in doubles.

Only once since 1998 have the Creighton Bluejays and Nebraska Huskers made the NCAA men’s basketball tournament in the same season.  In 2014.  But as Greg Echlin reports for Omaha Public Radio, both teams appear to be headed in that direction again...

It was a Big Red weekend in Kansas City as thousands of Nebraska women’s volleyball fans flocked to Sprint Center to watch the Huskers win the NCAA championship. 

At the NCAA women’s volleyball final four in Kansas City, the Huskers face a familiar foe in tonight’s first 6 p.m. semifinal match as Greg Echlin  reports for Omaha Public Radio.

Nebraska fires athletic director after 5 years

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska abruptly fired athletic director Shawn Eichorst on Thursday, citing a failure to improve the "on-field performance" by the Cornhuskers.

The U.S. Senior Open Championship four years ago was a huge success in Omaha. The U.S. Golf Association has announced that it will return to the Omaha Country Club as Greg Echlin reports for Omaha Public Radio.

The latest stop in NASCAR’s version of the playoffs called The Chase took place at Kansas Speedway Sunday.  That meant a business trip to Kansas City, Kansas, for Omaha psychologist Dr. Jack Stark.  He’s someone who’s accustomed to being part of championship seasons.  Omaha Public Radio’s Greg Echlin explains.

When the Kansas City Royals held their first full-squad workouts Tuesday, two former Huskers teammates re-united.

All-Star outfielder Alex Gordon chose to stay close to his Nebraska roots and signed a four-year contract with the Kansas City Royals reportedly worth a total of $72 million.

Basketball takes over again at CenturyLink Center tonight, but the arena was the epicenter of women’s volleyball over the weekend.  As Omaha Public Radio’s Greg Echlin reports, the price of admission turned out to be well worth it for Husker fans.

A record crowd turned out for Thursday night’s semifinals of the NCAA women’s volleyball championship and saw the Huskers advance to the championship. 

In the first NCAA women’s volleyball championship in Omaha since 2008, the Huskers will play the second game of the doubleheader.  The Kansas Jayhawks are bracing themselves for a crowd that won’t be in their favor.
