STEM education

The Omaha STEM Ecosystem, a not-for-profit, is offering free resources online.  The Omaha STEM Ecosystem and AIM Institute announced the launch of the online STEM Community Platform. The mission of the STEM Community Platform, stemplatform.org, connects youth, parents, educators and professionals to an online hub of high-quality STEM programs, resources and events in the Greater Omaha area.   

Julie Sigmon, the director of The Omaha STEM Ecosystem, joined Mike Hogan on the “Live & Local” program to discuss these free resources, the importance of STEM education, and the partnership with AIM.

A new science center will be going up along Omaha's riverfront. Developers say it will be a learning and entertainment attraction with a focus on science, technology, engineering, and math-inspired activities. The 101-million dollar project will be privately funded.

 

Dr. Stephanie Adams, Dean of the Batten College of Engineering at Old Dominion University in Virginia, will speak at Metropolitan Community College on Monday, April 16th at 6:30 p.m.  She offers a few recommendations for parents concerned about preparing their children for an increasingly technological world. 

Women working in STEM jobs earn 33% more than those in non-STEM occupations.  STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Kaneko Receives Google Grant for STEM-Based Summer Camps

It is getting close to time to start thinking about 2017 summer camps, and Kaneko has received a $20,000 grant through the Google Inc. Charitable Giving Fund of the Tides Foundation to use on their summer STEM-based summer camps.
