Vesper Concert Series Performers Stop by KIOS-FM

"Trio Fortutio" is performing “The Human Factor” on Sunday, November 18th as part of the Vesper Concert Series.  Show time is 3:00 at 1517 South 114th Street (114th and Pacific).  The conceert is free and open to the public.

Christine Erlander Beard, (flute/piccolo) and Rodrigo Alquati, (cello, from Brazil) join Mike Hogan "Live & Local" to discuss the formation of the trio, the music, and a whole lot more.

Founded in 1984 as a compassionate response to the AIDS crisis, Nebraska AIDS Project (NAP) leads the community in the fight to overcome HIV/AIDS and its stigma through education, supportive services, and advocacy.  

On Saturday, November 17th from 8p.m. to Midnight it's the Nebraska AIDS Project’s annual fundraising gala “Night of A Thousand Stars” hosted at the Omaha Design Center.   There will be cocktails, hors d’overes, dancing, a silent auction, and raising money for Nebraska AIDS Project.  NAP's Executive Director, Brent Koster joins Mike Hogan "Live & Local" to discuss the mission, the event, and the future of treatment and education.

Over Kids Can's 110 years in the community, many things have changed, including what the children are spending their time doing.  In the early years children learned things like sewing, military drills, citizenship and trades.  Now Kids Can learning is based on STEMsmart Academy.  While most people are aware that STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math, not everyone is aware of what the smart stands for -strengths, music, art, reading, and tutoring.

Kids Can (formerly Social Settlement) Community Center invites the public to come celebrate 110 years of service to children in the Omaha community on Tuesday, November 13 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Remarks will take place at 6:30 p.m. Appetizers and refreshments will be served at the event.

On Sunday, November 11 at 6:00 P.M., OAYO is performing a Veteran's Day Concert at the Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum with Youth Symphony, Youth Philharmonic, Youth Concert Strings, selected Chamber Ensembles and Concerto Competition winner, Steven Pruss.

Mayor Honored with Roast, Tom O'Connor Discusses

  The first woman to be elected mayor of Omaha – Jean Stothert – will be honored as the Omaha Press Club’s next Face on the Barroom Floor on Friday, Nov. 9.

The event is open to the public. It will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a reception. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. with the roast starting around 8 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling 402-345-8008 or

Tom O’Connor, Chairman, Omaha Press Club Face on the Barroom Floor Committee, joins Mike Hogan to discuss the event and the long tradition of the Press Club’s honoring of Omaha citizens.

The Historic Home Tour and Boutique will run from 10:00am until 4:00pm on Saturday, November 10th and on Sunday, November 11th from 11:00am until 4:00pm.  In addition to the Castle, the tour features four historic properties in the area: the Fogarty home, both Janicek homes, and St. Barnabas Catholic Church.

Youth Care and Beyond supports children, individuals and families in the Omaha community, providing specialized services to  individuals who have suffered trauma, have learning or intellectual disabilities or developmental disabilities.

National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness month has kicked off and it appropriately coincides with National Family Caregiver Month.  On 11/15/18, there will be a ceremony at the state capitol to celebrate family caregivers. 

The Alzheimer's Association, Nebraska Chapter has resources for family caregivers.  Program Director Clayton Freeman chats with Mike Hogan live in the KIOS studios about the resources and, more importantly, the hope available to families dealing with Alzheimer's.

Bold, melodic, stormy – Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto grips listeners from its opening notes.  Perhaps the greatest and most recognizable of all piano concertos, it shares the program with Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony, a hymn to freedom and the power of humankind’s noble spirit.
