Berkshire Hathaway to report earnings on Friday

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Berkshire Hathaway Inc. will release its second-quarter earnings report Friday afternoon.

The Omaha, Nebraska-based conglomerate is led by billionaire Warren Buffett, so many investors will read the report to learn more about deals and investments Buffett made.

Much of the report will focus on how Berkshire's 80-odd subsidiaries performed in a variety of industries between March and July. Berkshire owns BNSF railroad, several major insurance companies and a number of utilities.

The paper value of Berkshire's derivative contracts and investments can cause big swings in its bottom-line profit, so Buffett urges investors to pay more attention to the company's operating earnings.

Four analysts surveyed by FactSet expect Berkshire to report earnings per Class A share of $2,424.43.
