New survey data shows income and education levels on the rise in Nebraska

The Center for Public Affairs Research at UNO recently released the results of the 2015 American Community Survey.

The survey gives the census bureau the opportunity to share timely information on socioeconomic-related issues as well as housing statistics on a yearly basis as opposed to researchers having to wait a decade between reports.

David Drozd, Research Coordinator for the Center for Public Affairs Research at UNO, says getting annual data allows researchers to detail things more quickly and closely.

Drozd says the survey also covers poverty and income statistics.

"National incomes grew by 3.8%.  Here in Nebraska we did exceed that, growing by 4.3% and that would rank us 16th best among all the states.  And we did beat our best comparison states of Iowa and Kansas.  It’s good to see incomes rising.”

Drozd says the state of Nebraska now has more than 30% of its population, age 25 or older, having a Bachelor’s degree or more education.

He says it’s the first time Nebraska has surpassed the 30% mark and is pretty close to the national average.  Drozd says it’s good to see because education tends to drive employment as well as earnings.
