Douglas County Commissioners Celebrating Courthouse's 100th Anniversary

The Douglas County Courthouse turns 100 this month.

In honor of the anniversary, the Douglas County Commissioners have planned a birthday celebration on October 20th

Commissioner Pam Tusa says the day’s events begin between 9:00 and 9:30 with a flag raising and a gun salute.  Tusa says the day features live music, tours of the courthouse and an exhibit of Model A and Model T cars.

She says there will also be another type of model on display that day.

"Somebody had donated years ago, a replica of the courthouse and this thing, I would say, is probably 2 feet by 3 feet and some of it is made out of match sticks.  And the gentleman that made it, we don’t have his name, did it while he was incarcerate.…”

Tusa says the commissioners will also unveil the new Douglas County Seal during the celebration.  There are five finalists for the official Douglas County logo.

The Courthouse Centennial takes place Saturday, October 20th, beginning at 9:00 a.m.  Festivities run all day long.  For details, click here
