Omaha, NE – Omaha Police Chief Eric Buske is the new Chief of the Bryan, Texas Police Department. A news release Friday afternoon from the Omaha Police Department announced Buske's new position. Chief Buske is a 25-year veteran of the Omaha Police Department. He's served as Police Chief for the past year and a half. OPD says Chief Buske's last day will be August 13th.
Mayor Jim Suttle issued this statement in response to Buske's hiring as Bryan, TX Police Chief: "Chief Eric Buske is an outstanding leader of the Omaha Police Department and has been a dedicated officer throughout his 25 years on the force. As I have said consistently, my hope was for Chief Buske to remain with OPD. However, I have never wanted to interfere with his desire to seek any opportunity that he feels is in the best interest of himself and his family. Omaha's loss is a great gain for the citizens of Bryan, Texas.
I am confident Chief Buske will continue his excellent leadership in Bryan, Texas and I will reaffirm to Mayor Mark Conlee and City Manager David Watkins that they have made the right decision. I express my sincere well wishes to Chief Buske and his family on this next chapter in his career.
I have called a meeting for Monday with my Chief of Staff Steve Oltmans, Human Resources Director Tom Marfisi, and Chief Buske to discuss our process for the transition and for finding a top-quality replacement for Omaha's Police Chief. I will also seek input from Omaha Police Officers Association President Aaron Hanson as part of the transition process. We will search diligently to find the most qualified individual to fill this important position."
