Omaha, NE – Omaha's sandbag operations move downtown this week.
Parks and Recreation officials say volunteers are needed Thursday through Saturday to fill sandbags at 18th and Chicago Streets. Two shifts are available Thursday and Friday between 12:30 and 8. On Saturday, volunteers are needed from nine AM to three PM. Volunteers must be 19 or older. To register for a shift, log on to http://volunteer.truist.com/omaha/volunteer/.
Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle's spokeswoman, Aida Amoura, says more than 379,000 sandbags have been filled since operations began. 179,700 sandbags are ready for use if needed.
The Missouri River remains more than six feet above flood stage at Omaha.
