Nominations Sought for Farm Mom of the Year

For anyone who has a favorite “farm mom,” the Americas Farmers organization is accepting nominations for their Farm Mom of the Year through March 31st

The award, in its eighth year, was established to recognize the vital role women in farming make to their communities and beyond.

Tracy Mueller, Marketing Communications Manager for Monsanto, the sponsor of the contest, says five regional winners will be selected, each of whom will be awarded $3000.00 for their own personal use and $2000.00 to be given to an eligible non-profit organization in their community.  She says their past winners have been nominated by a variety of people in their lives.

“Anyone can nominate, so it could be your own mother, it could be a friend, a sister, a daughter – someone in the community that you admire – there’s really no limits on that. So, qualifications are just how she contributes to the family, the farm, the community and the ag industry.  So, she could be a member of the farm bureau, she could be involved in her local FFA.”

Mueller says the group American Agri-Women selects the five regional winners from what is usually around 1,000 nominations. Their profiles are then put on the Americas Farmers website and the public votes for the national winner, who receives an additional $2000.00 to donate to either the same, or a different, non-profit in her community.
