First snowfall causes accidents, ties up traffic in Omaha

Omaha-area drivers were met with slick conditions during the drive to work or school Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service says just over half an inch of snow fell at Eppley Airfield. Roads were snow and ice-covered throughout the city, causing accidents and stalled vehicles.

Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert said Tuesday on her Facebook page that crews will salt residential streets, neighborhoods with hills, and icy intersections Tuesday afternoon. She said the priority is major and secondary streets.

The Nebraska Department of Roads said this afternoon that streets in the Omaha area are in normal or wet condition. Drivers should be cautious on the afternoon commute.
