Baritone Saxophonist Frank Basile is on tour in the Midwest. Basile is a familiar musician to Omaha jazz fans, having spent time as a young musician in the area. Frank Basile will perform with a band he co-leads with saxophonist Rob Scheps. The saxophonists have sat next to each other in the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, one of the greatest jazz big bands on earth, both in Taiwan and at New York's Village Vanguard.
Upcoming performances include a performance at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa Tuesday, April 3 at 9pm. Also, The Capital Jazz Society will present a performance on Wednesday, April 4 at Brewsky's Jazz Underground in Lincoln.
Jazz in the Afternoon host Chris Cooke caught up with Frank Basile over the phone. Basile discussed his latest project, which focused on the music of the great saxophonist Pepper Adams. Basile also described his development as young musician, including his time in Omaha, and the big bands he has performed in during the last several years.
