St. Patrick’s Day comes early to the Holland Center with a performance featuring the Irish-American group Cherish the Ladies on Wednesday, March 11th.
Joanie Madden, front woman on flute and whistle, says the group is excited to be coming back to Omaha as part of their 30th anniversary tour.
She says fans of Celtic music come from all ethnic groups.
Madden says the appeal of this type of music is that many people are able to relate to it and appreciate it.
"Irish music is a background for so many of America’s folk traditions whether you talk about Bluegrass, or Country or Old Timey, it all came down the river from Celtic music. These tunes could be this gorgeous melody we are playing that’s over 300 years old but it wasn’t written by people who didn’t have a clue what key they were playing in or what note they were playing but it was beautiful music.”
Singer Maura O’Connell will perform with the group that evening. Cherish the Ladies performs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11th. Tickets are available at omahaperformingarts.org.
