Kansas City Royals Beat Astros to Win Division Series and Advance in the Playoffs

With a key contribution from former Husker Alex Gordon, the Kansas City Royals move on to the American League Championship Series.  They defeated the Houston Astros, 7-2, at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.

Another Alex, right fielder Alex Rios, was also a star of the game.  Rios, who earlier drove in the go-ahead runs with a two-run double, caught a fly ball against the fence for the final out to set off the fireworks.

For Alex Gordon, whose ground-rule double knocked out Astros starting pitcher Collin McHugh, the post-game celebration never gets old.

“Just enjoy it with family,” said Gordon.  “You practice and play all year and work for these kind of moments.  Then it’s fun to enjoy it and celebrate it.”

In the best-of-seven American League Championship series, the Royals play the Toronto Blue Jays. Earlier in the day, the Blue Jays advanced after beating the Texas Rangers.
