Syria discussions, violence in Egypt topics of UNO Middle East Forum

Ongoing violence in Egypt, and upcoming international talks on Syria, are among the topics that’ll be discussed Thursday at this month’s Middle East Forum.

UNO hosts the monthly forum on topics concerning the Middle East. Moshe Gershovich is director of the Schwalb Center for Israel and Jewish Studies. He says the violence in Egypt is both a country issue and a regional issue.

"We’ve seen it in Iraq a few years ago after the American occupation of the country when you had the resistance to the occupation. We’ve seen it obviously in Syria, where it’s much more brutal and disturbing. We see it to some extent in Lebanon, which is of course a country that used to be predominantly Christian, and where Christians are still a significant part of the population."

The Middle East Forum begins at noon Thursday at UNO’s Milo Bail Student Center.  It’s open to the public.
