Nebraska Food Cooperative Connects Consumers with Family Farmers

The Nebraska Food Cooperative is an on-line farmers' market and food distribution service. Members can purchase produce, meat, baked goods, health and beauty supplies and other products directly from Nebraska small farmers.

Beth Kernes Krause with the NFC says it has been around for about 12 years and that their members are individuals, families, schools, restaurants and grocery stores across the state.  She says they deliver once a month to sites in Omaha, Lincoln and Blair as well as across the state.

“Most people that are coming to the Nebraska Food Coop are looking for something that they cannot generally get in a grocery store.  And, they’re also looking to support Nebraska family farmers -- and these are small family farmers. Some of our farmers are certified organic, some are certified naturally grown, Many use organic practices but don’t have the certification, as the certification can be prohibitively expensive.”

Krause says on their website each producer has a page which includes their farm practices as well as the products they sell.

Memberships are $40.00, or $100.00 for a voting membership. They also offer visitor and trial memberships.
