Prime Time Family Reading Time is a reading and discussion program for families with kids ages 6-10 who are struggling with their reading.
Erika Hamilton, Director of Literary Programs for Nebraska Humanities Council, says the six-week program is free for families. She says the program begins with a meal and storytelling.
The discussion will revolve around each book’s theme and how it might relate to the families’ lives. This year, the program has expanded.
"This fall we have four and they reach out to different communities in Omaha. We just began the Prime Time at the South Omaha Library for Spanish speaking families and then next week the Washington Branch Library, they do a Prime Time that’s just in English. There’s usually a diverse group that goes.”
The other two Prime Time Reading Programs take place at Gilder Elementary, which is also a bilingual program and the Cather Branch Library which is a Native American program.
