Salvation Army Tree of Lights campaign begins Friday

The Salvation Army of Omaha provided assistance to more than 170,000 low-income people last year.

The annual Tree of Lights campaign begins Friday. Salvation Army of Omaha spokeswoman Susan Eustice says all donations to Tree of Lights stay local to support more than 20 programs, including Winter Night Watch.

"That's a mobile feeding program for the homeless that tours the town to areas where the homeless and near-homeless hang out, and deliver warm food, and also coats, hats, gloves, mittens, that sort of thing."

Last year's Tree of Lights campaign raised just over $3 million.

The Salvation Army kicks off the Tree of Lights campaign by lighting a 75 foot Christmas Tree at 90th and Dodge Streets in Omaha. The campaign runs through Christmas Eve.
