Tecumseh prison remains on lockdown; investigation continues into weekend riot

The Tecumseh State Correctional Institution remains on lockdown, but inmates are now allowed to shower and use the phone.

TSCI has been on lockdown since last weekend, when riots and fires broke out at the prison after guards tried to break up a large group of inmates. Four people were injured, and two inmates were found dead. Corrections officials and the Nebraska State Patrol are investigating.

Nebraska Department of Corrections spokesman James Foster says TSCI is allowing some well-behaved inmates to help with functions such as laundry and food service, with direct supervision. Inmates’ medical needs are being addressed and food is being delivered to them twice a day.

An investigation in to last weekend’s riot continues. 32 cells are marked as an active crime scene, with another 32 cleared for use.

Tecumseh State Correctional Institution is a maximum-security facility.
