OPS launches SAFE Schools Hotline

Omaha Public Schools recently launched its SAFE Schools Hotline.

Nancy Bond, School Counseling Supervisor for OPS, says the hotline is meant to offer students, staff and families another means of insuring and increasing school safety and student well-being at the same time.

Bond says the service is available 24-hours a day, 365 days a year and is free and anonymous.  She says those who call will be speaking with trained counselors from the Boys Town National Hotline…

"So if students have any sorts of concerns relative to substance abuse or bullying or suicidal ideation, depression, anxiety, or just simply a concern about themselves or a friend, they can call the hotline and speak with a trained counselor."

Bond says the hotline has already begun receiving calls.  Funding for all the promotional materials for the hotline was provided by Nebraska Medicine.

The phone number for the OPS SAFE schools hotline is 531-299-SAFE.
