Omaha Public Schools Superintendent Matt Ray Reflects on His First Year in Office - The Successes, the Work Yet to be Done & “The Moon Shot!”

Matt Ray began serving as the superintendent of Omaha Public Schools in July 2024. He has been with the district for 28 years. Throughout his career at Omaha Public Schools, Matt has served in key positions to support the young people and the OPS staff.

As Matt concludes his first year as Superintendent of Omaha Public Schools, he sat down with Mike Hogan at the KIOS-FM studios on 33rd and Burt to reflect over the past couple of years that lead to his becoming the superintendent. He discussed some of the behind-the-scenes decisions that have been made, shared a few of the moments during this past school year that touched him, explained the “Moon Shot” program and the hoped for impact of that district wide initiative, as well as giving some insight into how he balances district life with home life.
