Omaha, NE – Alex Hayes is the new Acting Chief of the Omaha Police Department.
Hayes, a Deputy Chief, is a 23 year veteran of the police force. Earlier this year, he was named Deputy Chief of the Criminal Investigations Bureau. He also previously served as Lieutenant of the Department's homicide and narcotics divisions.
Mayor Jim Suttle says Hayes' experience and leadership qualities led to his selection as Acting Police Chief. Hayes says he wants to continue the momentum that's developed within the department over the past year and a half. He also wants to reach out to the community.
Deputy Chief Hayes takes over following the retirement of Police Chief Eric Buske. Buske's last day with OPD is Friday. Last week Buske was named as the new Police Chief in Bryan, Texas.
