Arts Block Party -- A Family Friendly "Arts Immersion" Day

Families will have a rare opportunity to check out three of the metro’s largest arts organizations on one day at the Arts Block Party on Saturday, August 18th.

T Adam Goos, director of educational programming at Omaha Conservatory of Music, says this block party seemed like a natural thing to do, now that OCM, Omaha Community Playhouse and the Omaha Academy of Ballet are within blocks of each other. Goss says families will be able to experience the offerings at all three organizations in a hands-on way.

“So kids can come and they can try playing the violin, they can try playing piano.  They can try doing some dance classes in the ballet studio.  They can do some improv with teachers and actors from the Omaha Community Playhouse. There’s some hands-on craft activities. And then there’s also performances by faculty, by community members and by students at all three organizations participating.  So, it’s a fun day to immerse yourself in the arts and also to try out some new things that you maybe haven’t tried out, or you’ve thought about trying, but you just haven’t taken that leap yet.”

Goos says having three arts organizations with strong educational programs in such close proximity may be unique to Omaha.  And related to that, he says they will be announcing special “experimental” discounts to families with children attending classes at all three.

The event takes place on August 18th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., between 69th and 72nd on Cass Street.  Goos says parking is plentiful, and there will also be food trucks and raffles.
