Court date set for Dr. Anthony J. Garcia

Dr. Anthony Joseph Garcia will have his first appearance in an Omaha court Tuesday morning.

A court date for Garcia is set for Tuesday at 9am. He was extradited Thursday from Union County, Illinois. Garcia is being held at the Douglas County Department of Corrections. He's charged with four counts of first-degree murder and four counts of use of a weapon to commit a felony.

An affidavit unsealed Thursday regarding Garcia's arrest connects him to Omaha at the times of two double homicides. Dr. Roger Brumback and his wife, Mary, were found dead in their home in west Omaha May 14th of gunshot and stab wounds.

The affidavit says stab wound patterns on the Brumbacks were consistent with those on Thomas Hunter and Shirlee Sherman, who were stabbed at Hunter’s home in March 2008.

Garcia was a pathology resident at Creighton from 2000 to 2001, when he was fired by Drs. Brumback and William Hunter for what authorities call erratic behavior. Hunter is the father of Thomas Hunter.

Garcia was arrested Monday in southern Illinois.
