"Artrageous" is Season Opener for The Arts Center at IWCC

The Arts Center at Iowa Western Community College will present the first of eight events in its 2018-2019 National Performance Season -- with Artrageous on Sunday, September 16th at 2 p.m.

Artrageous is a New Mexico-based multidisciplinary performance troupe. Troupe member Lauri Francis says they started in Vancouver doing street performances in the 1990s.  She calls Artrageous “a culmination of their street theater days to corporate music days to art days.”

“So Artrageous is live painting, it’s live music, it’s singing, dancing, life-size puppetry, juggling – you name it. We try to just put all of the arts on one stage.  There are moments where we all are on stage, but it’s a nice flow of where you get to see everybody and then you get to see a couple of people.”

Francis describes their music as an upbeat mix of styles from the 1940s to the present, and they call their art “action painting” or “splatter art,”  She says they use their hands and brushes to “create masterpieces in 6 minutes.”  Their artworks are displayed after the show, and audience members and can even create some art of their own.

On Monday, the Artrageous troupe will present a masterclass for area arts students, thanks to a grant from Arts Midwest.

The show is family friendly, with discounted tickets for students and seniors.
