ISIS, foreign policy focus of a forum Thursday on Middle East issues

Islamic extremism in the Middle East is among the topics that’ll be discussed at a forum in Omaha this Thursday.

This is the third year of UNO’s Middle East Forum. The forum brings together scholars on the Middle East, religion, and politics to discuss world issues. Moshe Gershovich, Director of UNO’s Schwalb Center for Israel and Jewish Studies, says ISIS and its impact on foreign policy will be a major topic of discussion.

"It also has a lot to do with another of the main topics we have included, which is what happens in Turkey, because Turkey in the last few weeks has emerged as a country whose role in all of this seems to be questionable."

Gershovich says Ramazan Kilinc, the Director of UNO's Islamic Studies program, is familiar with domestic Turkish politics and will speak about that issue.

Other topics of discussion include the relationship between Israel and Palestine.

The Middle East Forum begins at noon Thursday at UNO’s Milo Bail Student Center, in the Chancellor’s Room. More information is available at www.unomaha.edu or at 402-554-3175.
