Metropolitan Community College to offer accelerated courses

Metropolitan Community College plans to start offering accelerated five-week-long classes this fall.

The accelerated courses will initially be offered in accounting. Students will meet both in class and online. Daryl Hansen, dean of business and human services at MCC, says the classes are designed for advanced students.

"It allows students who are very responsible students and who are capable and dedicated to prepare work in advance, as they would with an online course, and come to class prepared to do in-depth discussions and analysis, more challenging kinds of in-class experiences."

Most classes are ten weeks long. MCC plans to have three five-week courses in accounting at first. Those offerings will expand in the winter quarter.

Hansen says students who take the accelerated courses can focus on one class at a time. They can continue on to get an accounting or business degree, or a certificate.
