Girl Scouts cookie sales underway

For over 100 years, the Girl Scouts have been selling their well-known cookies.

Shannon Peterson, Marketing and Communication Specialist for Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska, says cookies are on sale now through March 4th

If you don’t know any Girl Scouts, not to worry, booths opened last weekend at several different retail spaces.

Peterson says 100% of the proceeds from cookie sales stay in Nebraska with their local council and troops.

She says girls may use the cookie proceeds for anything from field trips and travel to community service projects and uniforms.

Peterson says selling cookies also helps the girls learn important life skills.

"So girls are learning those business and entrepreneurial skills, things like setting a budget, setting and meeting goals, people skills and how to get out of their comfort zone.  If they’re shy, they can get out and start talking to people, giving that sales pitch.  And some of the more outgoing girls are learning how to help the shyer girls do that.  So those are some of the immediate skills they can use whereas the others are long term.”

Peterson says the Cookie Car is back again this year. The Spirit of Nebraska council is giving away a 2018 Toyota RAV4, courtesy of Baxter of Toyota-La Vista.  She says the car is wrapped with cookies and will be given away after the cookie sale is over.

Peterson says you don’t have to buy cookies to enter but you will need a secret code from a girl scout.  To order cookies online or to enter the contest, the web address is GirlScoutsNebraska.org
