Omaha one of eight recipients of Great American Trails Grant

The Omaha Parks Foundation has received a $15,000 Great American Trails Grant. The Parks Foundation is one of eight recipients of the grant from the National Recreation and Park Association and Darden Foundation. Recipients could use the funds for any project along community trails.

Amber Miller of the Omaha Parks Foundation says the grant was used for projects along the South Omaha trail. “We decided that it would be wonderful with the new South Omaha trail if this money could go towards some seating arrangements with benches, and some signage for the trail. And that’s what we put the money towards.”

Miller says that work was phase one of a two-part project. The second part is extending the trail 1.6 miles from 45th and Dayton to the Field Club Trail. Miller says that project is already fully funded, and construction should begin early next year.
