Girls Incorporated of Omaha will hold a community open house on Saturday, May 15th to unveil its new $15 million health and wellness center expansion at its North Omaha facility.
Roberta Wilhelm, Executive Director of Girls, Inc., says their board and staff came together about five years ago in a strategic planning process to see if they were meeting the needs of the girls and if they were providing the programs that girls needed.
She says one of the areas that came up short was health and wellness so one of the first things that was added was a new gym.
"Which is big enough to have a net dropped in the middle and activities on both sides. It is big enough for volleyball which we’ve never had. There is a clinic that UNMC will be running on-site, two teen rooms, a media lab and a mindfulness/meditation room. In addition to these great spaces, some of the space in the existing facility has been repurposed so we have also added an education kitchen for healthy cooking.”
Wilhelm says Girls, Inc. will hold a community open house with tours of the facility and refreshments on Saturday, May 14th from 10-1. The North Omaha facility is located at 2811 North 45th Street.
