UNMC's Ice Skating Rink Opens This Weekend

The UNMC ice skating rink will open this Saturday, November 25th and will remain open through February 4th.

Bill Lawlor, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance at UNMC, says the $7 admission fee includes skate rental.

The rink is open for the public to enjoy Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Lawlor says Tuesday and Thursday the rink is reserved exclusively for UNMC student broomball and curling leagues.

He says this year, UNMC expects a large increase in attendance.

"Because the chancellor is now over UNO and UNMC, we are opening up the rink to UNO students and faculty and staff and their families for use free.  UNMC and Nebraska Medicine employees also get to use the facilities for free.  So my point is, we are anticipating a huge increase in the use of this rink this year because of the UNO attendance that we predict will happen."

Lawlor says the ice skating rink is located east of 42nd street midway between Emile and Dewey Avenue and is nestled among four buildings.

The rink will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  More information, including hours of operation, can be found on the ice rink’s Facebook page, The Ice at UNMC.
