Omaha's new Police Chief will be sworn-in Wednesday evening.
Deputy Chief Todd Schmaderer was introduced Tuesday afternoon as the department's new Chief. He's a 17-year veteran of the Omaha Police Department and currently oversees the Uniform Patrol Bureau.
Schmaderer says he wants to modernize the police department and do more with community policing efforts. "I want to get out to the men and women of the Omaha Police Department and let them know how much I appreciate what they do and just kind of show my leadership on that front, let them know they have a Chief that cares."
OPD Captain Greg Gonzalez was also a finalist, as were retired Stockton, California Police Chief Blair Ulring and Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Police Chief Christopher Domagalski. Mayor Jim Suttle says all four candidates were highly qualified, but Schmaderer was the best for the job.
