Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is set to speak at the University of Nebraska at Omaha today and at Offutt Air Force Base tomorrow.
This is Hagel's first trip to Nebraska since being named Secretary of Defense in late February. He'll speak at 4:45 today at UNO at an invitation-only event. Hagel is a 1971 graduate of UNO, and the university's Criss Library houses the U-S Senator Chuck Hagel Archives.
Hagel, a Vietnam War veteran who was awarded two Purple Hearts, will speak Thursday morning at STRATCOM. He'll return to Washington D-C Thursday evening.
Secretary Hagel issued a statement Tuesday on the transition of combat operations in Afghanistan from U-S troops to Afghan National Security Forces, calling it a "critical milestone."
