LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska Secretary of State John Gale says a complaint challenging a legislative candidate's residency was filed too late to be considered by his office.
Gale said Tuesday that his office has no authority to review the challenge by former state Sen. LeRoy Louden.
Louden filed the complaint against Tom Brewer on Aug. 31. Gale says the challenge should have been filed no later than March 8.
Brewer is running against incumbent state Sen. Al Davis of Hyannis. Brewer has said he lives in a log home that's located inside of a shed in Gordon. Louden says in his complaint that the shed isn't listed or taxed as a residential property in the Sheridan County community, and contends that Brewer's real home is in Murdock, just outside Lincoln.
