MAPA seeks public input

The Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Area Planning Agency, or MAPA, is amending its 2040 Long Range Transportation Plan to address cost increases for the City of Omaha’s construction project along 156th Street from Pepperwood Drive to Corby.

Mike Helgerson, Transportation and Data Manager for MAPA, says the latest estimate puts the total cost of that project over the threshold that requires an amendment.

He says the change has to be made so the estimate and the actual cost of the project line up.

Helgerson says this change to the LRTP ensures that the city can coordinate with the Nebraska Department of Roads to make funding available for the project later this year.

"This is an administrative change we have to make to this project to make it eligible to let later this year.  So, a lot of what we are trying to make apparent to people is it’s really how the transportation planning project works.  What some of these larger federal aid project final approvals look like and what people can anticipate with this project moving ahead.”

Helgerson says comments may be submitted in writing via mail or email by 4:30 p.m. on May 30th.  More information is available at mapacog.org.
