UNO Celebrates Life and Work of Holocaust Survivor & Artist Samuel Bak With Museum

In May of 2022, at UNO’s Dodge Campus, the former College of Education building, Kayser Hall, will be renovated and turned into a museum that features art from Holocaust survivor, Samuel Bak.  Over his 88 years of life, Bak has created over 8,000 pieces of art and after Kayser Hall’s renovations are complete, UNO will be home to 512 of those works.

Samuel was a guest on a special extended edition of “Live & Local” with Mike Hogan.  That interview can be heard here: https://www.kios.org/post/special-event-world-renowned-artist-and-holocaust-survivor-samuel-bak-extended-live-local

Currently, the university has three paintings by Bak in the Criss Library that are free for the public to view. They will remain in their place even after the museum is completed.  The $23 million project is the first in the NU system to be funded by new legislationpassed earlier this year.  That legislation allows the university to sell bonds at low rates, potentially saving taxpayers billions of dollars.
