Omaha, NE – More than 600 people braved the cold Friday night for the first annual Heartland Walk for Warmth. The walk was sponsored by the United Way of the Midlands, Salvation Army and American Red Cross Heartland Chapter, all of whom offer utility assistance programs. United Way's Vice President of Volunteer and Community Relations, Jamie Moore, is calling the event a success. She says more than $100,000 was raised for the heat aid programs administered by MUD, OPPD and Aquila. Moore says the need for utility assistance is increasing as the amount of federal assistance is dwindling.
