Omaha Prepared For Snowstorm

Nebraska is dealing with winter weather.  Winter storm watches and warnings were issued for most of the state as the Omaha area received between one and five inches of snow after the storm moved into the region yesterday.  A large section of central and western Nebraska received more than 10 inches of frozen precipitation.  Officials closed an 86-mile stretch of Interstate-80 between York and Kearney during the snow storm.

The snow is to blame for power outages in the Omaha area.  The Omaha Public Power District says thousands of homes and businesses lost power during last night's snowstorm.  As of 10:30 last night, more than 22-hundred customers were without power including more than one-thousand in Dodge County and nearly 700 homes and businesses in Douglas County.

Omaha road crews are prepared for the winter weather.  City officials say 100 vehicles were equipped to plow and spread salt on local streets once the snow began to fall.  Street maintenance in Omaha went into a 24-hour operation yesterday at noon.
