Deadly Fire At Bennington Horse Farm Ruled An Accident

Authorities say one person and nine horses died in a fire at a horse barn near Bennington. The fire was reported early Thursday at Heartland Farms. Waterloo Fire Chief Travis Harlow said one firefighter suffered serious injuries while battling the blaze and was taken to Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy in Omaha. Harlow said several other horses were injured in the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but has been ruled an accident as of Friday morning; The name of the person who died has not been released.
