Volunteer firefighting programs across Nebraska are facing recruiting issues. A survey conducted by Nebraska Public Media News shows 62-percent of volunteer departments say recruiting is difficult. 59-percent said recruitment problems will decrease the quality of their services. The majority of fire departments also say they expect extreme weather in the coming years, increasing the number of calls they have to respond to.
